Los Cabos Airport Public Bus Service

Navigating transportation in a foreign destination, such as Los Cabos, Mexico, a popular choice for many travelers is the public bus system. This affordable and reliable mode of transport connects key locations, offering a convenient way to explore the area. While many locals in Cabo are accustomed to interacting with tourists and often speak English, it’s beneficial to have your travel plans sorted. Beyond public buses, consider learning about private transportation services too, ensuring a hassle-free experience.

Ruta del Desierto Busses

The Ruta del Desierto bus is a safe, comfortable, and budget-friendly way to travel from the airport to San José and then to Cabo San Lucas. The cost is MX$80 for trips to or from the airport. For journeys between San José and Cabo San Lucas, the fare is just MX$37. You can find the bus stop at Terminal 1 of the airport, which is a short walk from Terminal 2, where international flights arrive.

The Ruta del Desierto bus service has two main stops: the La Comer supermarket in San Jose del Cabo and near the Puerto Paraiso mall in Cabo San Lucas. With frequent stops along the way, it’s a convenient option for reaching most major hotels and resorts in the area.

Traveling from Los Cabos Airport

Terminal 1 at Los Cabos Airport is the exclusive point for catching the Public Bus that connects the airport with San Jose Del Cabo Downtown, the Tourist Corridor, and Cabo San Lucas. Operated by Ruta del Desierto, these distinctively colored purple and yellow buses are hard to miss. You can buy tickets at the bus desk located in the arrivals section of Terminal 1. The buses operate daily, starting from Santa Anita (south of the airport) as early as 4:30 am and running until 11:00 pm, with buses departing every 8 to 10 minutes. If you arrive at Terminal 2, you’ll need to walk with your luggage to Terminal 1 to board the bus at Los Cabos Airport.

All stops for hotels  & resorts are mostly alongside the highway. This means you may have to walk across the road and up to your hotel or resort. For those who are catching the bus from the Hotel and to the Los Cabos Airport, you will be dropped off at Terminal 1 first and then Terminal 2 (no need for walking).

Plan your time accordingly, depending on your location and traffic on the main highway and through San Jose del Cabo, it may take up to 1 – 2 + hours to reach the Los Cabos Airport by Ruta del Desierto bus.
